Suburban every-man George Cassermeyer cuts his middle finger off in a carpentry accident. From then on the loss of his finger has a strange and profound effect on him. Lost in his own existential crisis over his finger his marriage, career, and even his grasp on reality end up suffering. Conventional notions of time and space begin to distort and he finds himself "skipping" through moments in his life without a clue to their order or significance.
